Tanjora Tribal Bellydance

Tanjora is Fresno's first Tribal Belly Dance troupe, presenting the modern style of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, as well as Tribal Group Improvisation, and Classic Belly Dance. The troupe is directed by Lydia Fortner, who is the Belly Dance Instructor at California Arts Academy.

Tribal Fusion is an exciting, globally aware form of modern Bellydance which blends traditional bellydance with the aesthetic of Tribal Style bellydance, a form that developed in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1960’s and is still evolving today.

It blends traditional Egyptian and American belly dance with influences from Indian dance, Flamenco, North African, Turkish Rom ("Gypsy"), Modern Dance, and Hip Hop, creating a new style for the 21st century.

Classic Bellydance is an interpretive presentation of vintage or classic bellydance of the 20th century, both real and imagined.

Tanjora's presentations are entertaining, not embarrassing, based on good dance technique and showmanship. The costumes and music are beautiful and captivating, with ancient and modern influences. Some shows include fire performance as well. The dances are improvised, structured, or choreographed to create a mesmerizing performance.

The dancers of Tanjora shimmy and undulate to both traditional and modern music, transporting audiences to mysterious Eastern lands... Experience the colorful costumes, dazzling jewelry, enchanting music, and timeless dancing that is Tanjora Tribal Bellydance.
